A strand jack lifting system consists of hydraulic jacks that provide a continuous pulling and lifting movement applied to loads. If numerous strand jacks are utilized in unison, they can lift loads weighing thousands of tons weight. Thus is possible in spite of the individual jacks which weight very less, and occupy a very small space when installed (Bright Hub Engineering, Strand Jacks – What Are They? 2016).

From an individual perspective, hydraulic jacks are small devices that can do a lot of work using hydraulic pressure. These provide a combination of gripping and lifting actions that lead to a linear movement. This kind of movement ultimately helps lift heavy loads up to great heights. The strand jack lifting technology is very useful for lifting loads in restricted areas. These devices also are not very difficult to install and operate.

Hydraulic Jack Setup

The strands present in the jacks are basically steel wires that are arranged in a circumference pattern. These strands pass through a hydraulic cylinder jack that has anchors at both ends of the jack. The anchors are provided with grips, which function in an alternate manner. These operations consist of the anchor alternatively gripping and releasing the strands.

The strand jack is placed on a supporting bema that extends vertically to the tip of the location up to which the load needs to be lifted. The load is connected to the strands with the help of a block-shaped device.

Hydraulic Jack Working

The working of this device starts with the upper anchor to grip the strands. After this, the hydraulic cylinder forces the anchor in the upward direction together with the strands and the load connected to it. Once the strands reach the stroke length, the lower grip catches hold of the strands and stops them from sliding in the downward direction. The grip present on the upper side is then released, after which the hydraulic cylinder goes down to the bottom position. The upper grip again catches hold of the strands, following the release of the lower grip. This cycle repeats itself continuously in a linear movement, thus generating a lifting action for the load.

Using Strand Jack Instead of a Crane

As compared to a crane, using a strand jack is highly beneficial. Utilizing the cranes in restricted areas can be quite troublesome. In contrast, strand jacks can be easily installed in small spaces, thus being highly feasible. The jacks can also be operated by one person. This device works on a normal electric supply system and hence is less cumbersome to use than a crane set-up.

If you intend to get hold of strand jacks equipment for your construction project, you need to carry a thorough research regarding availability, price, types, etc. You can also consult a heavy lifting equipment supplier for more information. Only after carefully considering all such factors, you should take the final decision of buying or renting out a specific hydraulic jack module.
